Get Your Skin Summer Ready!


We are thick into springtime here in Wine Country- our winemakers are anxiously watching for flowering in the vineyards, our farmer’s markets are showing the region’s bounty (the berries are amazing this year), and we are lingering a little longer over dinner al fresco to enjoy the temperate evenings. 

We are also shedding our sweaters and going sleeveless only to find that- GASP!- our skin is stuck in winter- dull, dry and sluggish from the lack of sun, indoor heat and an overall lack of attentiveness.  

Want your skin to look its best this summer?  Here are five keys to getting your skin summer ready:

Eat Healthy:  Yes, we should be doing this year round but we all know the winter months have us craving a bit more sugar and carbs than usual due to the lack of sun.  Your skin is your body’s largest organ so it makes sense that it is greatly affected by poor nutrition.  Now is the time to hit the farmer’s markets or your local grocery store and stock up on organic fruits and vegetables (locally grown, preferred) to give your skin an antioxidant boost.

Sleep:  The body does AMAZING things while you sleep and one of those is to release hormones that encourage tissue growth.  Not only will this help you recover from yesterday's workout faster, but it will help keep your skin glowing all summer long.   

Hydrate: The warmer weather has your body craving more water so make sure you listen, especially if you live in a dry climate or are often exposed to air conditioning.
